Thanks to all who came out to Black Creek over the July 1 long weekend for our celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday: “Party Like it’s 1867!”
The Village was transformed for those magical three days into a 19th century carnival, complete with musicians, games, theatrical presentations and much more. Performing artists juggled fire, attempted daring feats of strength, and dazzled visitors with displays of sleight-of-hand.
Among the highlights:
- #trending in 1867: Pop-up exhibits highlighted the fads sweeping the (new) nation in the year of Confederation.
- Digging up the past: The TRCA Archaeology team was on hand to uncover the buried history of Black Creek Pioneer Village.
- Historical hijinks: Confederation met comedy, as Black Creek’s history actors presented the story of our nation’s founding as pantomime.
Last — but definitely not least — on July 1 we cheered on 40 new Canadians as they received their citizenship, and marked the occasion with (what else?) birthday cake.
See you again next year for birthday number 151!
